Words of Whimsy

Twin Cities Moms Blog Park Hop with Pretty Princess Parties

I say it all the time, but Minnesota is a pretty great place to be a kid. It’s definitely an AMAZING place to be a princess or superhero fan too! We can’t resist an opportunity to dress up and hit the town, and while the grocery store and brunch are fine places to wear Whimsy, hero and princess themed events are even more fun. Especially when they are FREE!D_P_Field

Twin Cities Moms Blog is hosting a series of “Park Hops” sponsored by Metropolitan Pediatric Dental Associates. Today’s event was held near Hyland Park in Bloomington which features the “Chutes and Ladders” play area – WOW. I’d been meaning to check it out, so when I heard that TCMB was doing a meet up AND the characters of Pretty Princess Parties were going to be appearing we set off for adventure.HeroPic

Miss P decided to mix things up and go as a hero today – she paired our pink hero cape with a pink soft crown, her own unitard from Target, and a fun pouffy tutu from Snuggle Bug Kidz. At one point she was wearing the coordinating pink flare satin mask, but I just realized she doesn’t have it on in any of these photos – so if you find one lying around Hyland, let me know!

We arrived just as Anna and Elsa were sitting down for storytime, and Miss P got a front row seat! They started at one table, and as the group grew, split into 2 separate areas so each child got more time.
The TCMB and MPDA groups provided water, stickers, bracelets, sunglasses, bubbles and other fun goodies our little girlies were completely captivated by. Pretty Princess Parties offered spider web and snowflake face painting, and Anna, Elsa, and Spiderman played “princess says”, borrowed Tinkerbell’s pixie dust for some special wishes, and posed for photos. There were a lot of families at the beginning, but I was really thrilled with the amount of “face time” we got with characters throughout the event, and how genuine and energetic they all were.

Just like our last interaction with Pretty Princess Parties at the Red Balloon’s storytime event, the performers were really welcoming and unshaken by the weird things that leap forth from a four year old’s mouth. Pretty sure poor Spiderhero had to listen to Miss P’s whole life story, and though I couldn’t tell for sure, I think they did it with a smile. They were also really great at suggesting fun poses to get kids smiling – like this “muscle” shot”

It looks like this was the final TCMB park hop this year that will feature characters, but there is one more event listed for the season with a dental health + trains theme. Find out more here. Pretty Princess Parties is doing events all across the region, including Fairy Tale Balls in the Twin Cities, Bemidji, Fargo, and many more; and of course we’re bring The Whimsy Factory to their ice cream social event on Sunday in Duluth, Minnesota. Find upcoming Pretty Princess Party public events on their website.  Oh, and I totally resorted to bribery (Dairy Queen) after the event in order to skip out on the play area – while it looks AMAZING, it was also incredibly crowded, with literal busloads of children from area camps/daycares/etc. I think we might wait to check it out until school is back in session 🙂

Don’t forget to play today! ~Heather
